We are Childhood Abroad. We left our home in Kansas in November of 2020. Our intention is pursuing an unconventional childhood for our kids, by showing them the world through full-time traveling.
A Little Bit About Us
Hey, I’m Bobby! I’m a musician at heart, but I have an affinity for the arts in general. My career as a freelance music composer gives me the ability to work remotely from anywhere. This allowed us to pursue our full-time traveling dreams, and begin seeing the world from a set of wheels. I have a background in media production, which is the skill set I use to create our Childhood Abroad videos, which you can watch here!
If anyone asks what kind of food I like, the answer is probably and overwhelmingly “YES!” (with a few exceptions, of course). I absolutely LOVE watching movies, and I tend to get swept up in their stories. Roller coasters are something else I love – I’ve got 67 credits and counting. I also really love craft beer (farmhouse, sours, and gose are my favorites!)
Traveling has been one of the greatest things. Full-time travel life has freed us from the monotonous day-to-day of being in one area. I love walking out our front door, and exploring a whole different location every few weeks. I never take for granted that many people live whole lifetimes without being able to experience them!
Hi there, I’m Maci, but the girls call me “Momma”. More often than not, you’ll find me in the kitchen. It’s fitting that the kitchen really is the center of our little home. It’s definitely my command center – if I could office out of there, I’d be set! In addition to all things food, I love crafting, reading, and planning our next adventure. I am ALWAYS looking for the next destination we can go. We are mainly full-time traveling in our RV throughout the United States. However, I love finding ways to mix it up with more elaborate destinations, both nationally and internationally.
I am passionate about home education and all the doors it opens for our children. One of the biggest aspects of why we choose a traveling life for our family is because we felt a life spent abroad would afford us opportunities and experiences that we just might not experience otherwise.
Things that are high on my priority list at each destination include the local food scene (craft coffee and beer, anyone?), little libraries for the kids, and niche museums.
Hello everyone! My name is Aaralyn (Air-uh-lin) and I am eight years old. I love to read (anything!), do art, bake, cook, and play with my four year old sister, Everleigh, and my baby brother, Sterling. My favorite color is pink, so maybe that’s why my favorite bird is a flamingo. Kansas is my hometown, but as you probably know, we all left in 2020 to begin our new, improved life. I love traveling! Did I mention that I also love tech? The new ideas that have formed since 2000, wow! I adore playing video games on the Wii, very much. My favorite is Animal Crossing City Folk. I love my family and my home. Where will we go next?
I’m Pickle Everleigh Brae Yarsulik. At least, that’s how I introduce myself anytime anyone asks! I like princess dresses, Elsa, playing, and listening to my big sister read to me. I love chocolate. And coffee- no one knows why, but I definitely take the last sips of momma’s coffee cup every morning! I’m pretty much fearless. Roller coasters are my favorite – they make me giggle so hard! When are we going to Disney World again?!
I love my Sissa more than anyone else and I am always ready to follow her into whatever adventure she’s doing. Don’t tell me I can’t, because I’m definitely sure I can do what ever she is doing! Just let me grab my Pooh Bear and blankie and kiss my brudder first.
I’m Sterling, but my sisters call me “Whirly.” I’m the newest addition to the family as I just made my debut in December 2021. Mom thinks I’m kind of a “Chatty Cathy,” but what does that even mean? I just have a lot of opinions, and with sisters who gab as much as mine, you had to have come out talking! I like our full-time traveling adventures too, especially seeing six National Parks while napping in my carrier while Momma does all the hard stuff like hiking. That could be why she calls me “Honky Chonk” now that I think about it. Oh well, at least they’re keeping track of all the places I visit in my U.S. National Parks passport stamp book for bragging rights later!
I really like baths, and milk time is my favorite but sometimes I find myself talking during that too. What’s a guy to do when he’s only awake 3 hours a day? Talk every chance he gets, right? Things I’m looking forward to this year? Definitely homemade baby food. 😉
Hello there, I’m Paula, but my favorite name is Meme!!! I’ve gotten to be called that for the last eight years, and it is still music to my ears. I’m retired from funeral service, as well as a small business I owned with Maci. Given such freedom, I find myself blessed with the opportunity of full-time traveling with my oldest daughter, my son-in-law, and my three delightful grandchildren. We travel together, but in separate rigs.
With multi-generational living situations making a resurgence in recent years in our country, our family has found this to be a nearly perfect balance of togetherness with healthy boundaries. We have grown closer together, shared mutual experiences across three generations, spent quality time together, basked in each other’s gifts and different talents; all whilst still having our own unique living environments. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to experience each new day through the eyes of my young grandchildren and steadfastly hope that the impact of our unique journey as a family will be everlasting in their lives.
I love to read; research and organize activities for our Field Trip Fridays; hike; birdwatch; and spend one-on-one time with each of my grandchildren. When we travel to new locations, I enjoy seeking out old churches for their unique architecture or finding an old cemetery to explore.
